For the past nine years, Curbell has been committed to the development of our future leaders. The mission of our internship program is to provide students with the opportunity to gain practical, challenging, and meaningful on-the-job work experience.
Our program wouldn’t be a success if it were not for our managers, supervisors, and colleagues who take these interns under their wing and go above-and-beyond to mentor them, providing a truly memorable experience.
Emma Duffy, our IT intern who will be attending Brockport College this fall, shares some of what she has garnered from her Curbell mentors over the summer.
I learned so much overseeing and participating in the day-to-day activities of the IT department, but, I am most grateful for Cathy Simon (Sr. SAP Business Solutions Manager) for setting up an entire afternoon for me to spend time with other IT professionals at Curbell.
I had the opportunity to learn how Cathy Simon, Elisa Manzela (Sr. Business Solutions Analyst) and Paula Miller (Sr. SAP ABAP Programmer) got their start in the tech world, about their work histories and the struggles they have faced throughout their careers. They provided me with sound advice that I want to share with everyone:
- Cathy Simon – “IT is a wonderful and challenging career. Trust your instinct and express your opinion in group situations even when it differs from everyone else.”
- Elisa Manzela – “When they ask, say yes. If you don’t know, learn how.”
- Paula Miller – “Whether it’s grabbing opportunities or presenting ideas, don’t say no to yourself by never asking the question.”
It was so refreshing to learn from these intelligent, hardworking women. When I see other professionals with successful tech careers, it reminds me why I love learning about the field and working in this industry.
One day I hope to be a role model to others like myself who are pursuing a technology degree and about to jump into the workforce.
